Mick
W. Berry was officially sworn in as the Hickory City Manager on August
2, 2004 and a public Oath of Office Ceremony was held in City Council
Chambers on August 3, 2004.
In June 2004,
the Hickory City Council unanimously selected Berry to be Hickory's
next City Manager.
Prior to becoming
the Hickory City Manager, Berry worked for Catawba County for 12
years, where he served as Assistant County Manager between July
2001 - July 2004. His career began with Catawba County in 1990,
when he was hired to work in the budget office. He left Catawba
County in 1995 and served as Granville County Manager for two years.
He then returned to Catawba County to be the Technology Director,
then Interim Finance Director until appointed as the Assistant
County Manager.
In past public
management positions, Berry was responsible for more than 800 employees,
as well as for a $75 million dollar budget. Some departments he
worked in or was responsible for in his career include budget,
finance, technology, GIS, emergency services, 911 operations, social
services, mental health and public health.
Berry is a graduate
of Brigham Young University (BYU), in Provo, Utah, where he earned
a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1988. In 1990, Berry
earned his Masters of Public Administration degree from BYU.
Berry is a native
of Sparks, Nevada. He and his wife Beth, who was born in Hickory,
have five children; Jordan, Christian, Morgan, Noelle and
Travis.
