Brownfield Advisory Group

In 2007, the City of Hickory received two Brownfield Assessment Grants from the United States Environmental Protection Agency. These two grants will be used to conduct environmental site assessments on vacant or under-utilized sites where there is suspect environmental contamination.

The Brownfield Advisory Group (BAG) is made up of citizen volunteers that will serve an advisory role to Hickory's planning staff in consultant selection and oversight, site identification and prioritization, as well as community outreach and marketing. The BAG will be in place until the assessment project is complete, which will take three years. The group meets quarterly.
