2008 Citizen's Survey back
Date of Record: January 8, 2009

In 2008, the City of Hickory worked with The Jackson Group on a statically valid citizen survey to ask Hickory residents their opinions about the city. A randomly sampled database of city residents was obtained, and survey professionals conducted the phone survey. City staff has thoroughly examined survey results and are pleased with the overwhelmingly high results on services provided and have reviewed what needs to be better communicated to citizens and reviewed areas where the city could improve.

"The general observation is that residents appear to be very satisfied with the services provided by the city, and a majority feel the level of services are adequate for the property taxes they pay," said The Jackson Group President/CEO Alan Jackson. "The Hickory Public Library, Hickory Fire Department, and residential trash collection received the most favorable results from the survey. As a Hickory based business, we are pleased from the responses we received from the citizens and are hopeful that the city finds the results useful as they plan for the future."
Some of Hickory's main strengths are:

  • Citizen pride
  • Overall appearance of Hickory
  • Receiving communications in a timely manner
  • Responsiveness to accidents or emergencies
  • Satisfaction with parks and recreation centers, library services and city services (water, waste water, trash collection, recycling and yard waste collection)
