The City of Hickory formed an internal Recovery Act Team (RAT) to explore and write grants in hopes of getting federal funds from the Recovery Act, also known as the economic stimulus plan that was approved by the United States Congress on February 17, 2009. City officials have researched and written grant and partnership opportunities in all areas of government, including infrastructure, public safety, personnel, library, recreation and more where available. Overview
The American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) signed into law by President Obama on February 17th, 2009, includes measures to modernize our nation's infrastructure, enhance energy independence, expand educational opportunities, preserve and improve affordable health care, provide tax relief, and protect those in greatest need.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act ( ARRA) was signed into law by President Barack Obama on Tuesday, February 17th, 2009. The purpose of the ARRA is defined below:
To preserve and create jobs and promote economic recovery.
To assist those most impacted by the recession.
To provide investments needed to increase economic efficiency by spurring technological advances in science and health.
To invest in transportation, environmental protection, and other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits.
To stabilize State and local government budgets, in order to minimize and avoid reductions in essential services and counterproductive state and local tax increases.
The ARRA includes tax cuts, unemployment benefits and funding for education, health care, and infrastructure. The full text of the Recovery Act can be accessed on the Recovery.gov web site. President Obama has stressed that transparency and public involvement are vital components of the the ARRA implementation process.
