Driver's Licenses

New residents must apply for a driver's license within 30 days of relocating to the state. Vision and written tests are required; road tests are given at the discretion of the examiner. Apply at the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles at 1158 Lenoir Rhyne Blvd., phone 326-1442.

Automobile Registration

Auto licenses must be purchased within 30 days of relocating to the state. Title of car or name of lienholder, proof of insurance and odometer reading are required. Automobiles must be inspected within 10 days from the date vehicles are subject to registration. Apply at the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles, 901 Hwy 321 NW, phone 328-3783.

Voter Registration

To vote in city, county, state, and federal elections, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, mentally sound and not under conviction of a felony.  You must register at least 30 days prior to the election in which you wish to vote. You may register to vote in Hickory and Catawba County immediately after establishing residency. You may register by mail or in person at the Board of Elections office and several other locations. Call for the nearest registration site.
