USING LIBRARY RESOURCES TO MANAGE YOUR MONEY

by Terressa Jefferson
Ridgeview Branch Manager

Managing your money is a phrase that we hear often these days. There seems to be a heightened interest in articles, books and TV programs on the subject. At one time all the articles, books and TV programs were centered around how to get rich, but now it seems that the tide has changed and we now want to manage our money. The wise handling of one’s money, and not necessarily the amount of money we make, is the key to being able to live well now and in retirement, the experts tell us. They also state that to begin the process of managing our money we first need to develop a budget. Second, we need to begin the process of eliminating our debt, especially credit card debt, and third, we need to have an emergency fund that equals three times our salary preferably.

Here at the library, we can help you get started. We have many books and access to articles on how to manage your money. Here are a few to help you along your way:

  • Zero Debt: The Ultimate Guide to Financial Freedom by Lynnette Khalfani
  • You Don’t Have to Be Rich by Jean Chatzky.
  • Girl, Get Your Credit Straight: A Sister’s Guide to Ditching Your Debt, Mending Your Credit, and Building a Strong Financial Future by Glinda Bridgforth
  • It’s About You and Your Money: A No Stress Guide to Becoming Financially Fit by Lois a Vitt.
  • Good Debt, Bad Debt: Knowing the Difference Can Save Your Financial Life by Jon Hanson
  • The Guide to Personal Budgeting: How to Stretch Your Dollars Through Wise Money Management by David Logan Scott.

These are just a few of the many books that we have on the subject of money management. Please stop by the library to see all our resources on financial management.
