Pick A Good Book for Your Summer Reading

Summer is a great time to catch up on your reading with the many opportunities to relax that we have during the summer time. A trip to the beach, long afternoons at the pool or in the park are all opportunities to jump-start your summer reading. In addition, it is also a time for parents to take advantage of events like the summer reading program at the libraries to help kids improve and not digress in their reading skills over the summer months. The summer reading program gives kids an incentive to read throughout the summer with fun activities and the chance to win prizes for their reading efforts.

Here are just a few titles for kids, as well as adults, to give you a sample of what the library has in stock for your summer reading pleasure:

Reading for Kids: These titles are based on our theme this year, Get a clue @ your library:

  • The Chet Gecko Mystery series: “The Malted Falcon”, “This Gum for Hire”, “Farewell My Lunch Bag” and “The Possum Always Rings Twice”.
  • The American Girl Mysteries: “The Silent Stranger”, “The Curse of Ravenscourt”, “Danger at the Zoo” and “A Spy on the Home Front”.
  • We also have favorites like the Cam Jansen mysteries, Nancy Drew mystery series and Flatfoot Fox series.

Here are a few best selling titles for adults:

  • “Sleeping with Strangers” by Eric Jerome Dickey
  • “From the Heart: Seven Rules to Live By” by Robin Roberts from Good Morning America.
  • “Letters to Young Black Women” by Daniel Whyte III (Letters written to young women dealing with the many issues that they face today).
  • “Blessings In Disguise”, “With Friends Like These” and “Nothing But Drama by Reshonda Tate Billingsley (Series).
  • “Jesus Land” by Julia Scheeres (a memoir about a mixed race brother and sister growing up in a strict religious reform school in the Dominican Republic)
  • “The Good Husband of Zebra Drive” – Alexander McCall Smith
  • “Skin” by Ted Dekker
  • “Body Surfing” by Anita Shreve
