WHODUNNIT AT THE LIBRARY You may hear this question in the children’s department of the library: “Who in the world did that??” We ask this question when we find paper towels stuffed in the kiddie toilet, we step in gum stuck on the carpet, we find books out of place or on the floor, and when we lose the portable phone, among other things. Most of the time we don’t know the answers (except the phone can usually be traced back to me). This summer we may find our answers as we “Get a Clue” during the 2007 Summer Reading Program. While students were winding down at school, the library was revving up for summer, its busiest time of year. We hired extra staff, ordered prizes, and stocked up on supplies. We’ll be busy! Check out a sample of our activities: Chocolate Lovers Mystery Program for teens, the Mountain Marionettes performance, and a Harry Potter Party—and that is just three of the many programs scheduled in July. There are more exciting programs set for July and August. I get exhausted thinking about all the fun things to do. I can’t list all the special programs here, but you can pick up a calendar at the library, visit our website at www.hickorygov.com/library, or watch the newspaper for press releases. Sign up for summer reading at the children’s desk. You write down the titles of the library books, magazines, etc. that you read, bring your list to the children’s desk for verification, and you will receive cool prizes like Crawdad baseball tickets, food coupons, and paperback books! Teen Read is available for students ages 12-18, so please ask for information at the children’s desk. So what’s the mystery? Wouldn’t you like to read about it? Come by the children’s department at Patrick Beaver Memorial or Ridgeview Branch Library, sign up for the summer reading program, and find out!
