Computer Class Policy Class Signup Procedures No customer may sign up for a class until the official announcement has been released. Customers may be told about upcoming classes, but they will have to wait until it is officially announced to register. The purpose of this procedure is to allow everyone equal opportunity to be aware of the class and to sign up for it. A valid Hickory Public Library card with computer access is necessary for most computer classes. If a customer’s library card does not have Internet access, or if they do not have a library card, they will not be able to participate in the hands-on portion of the class. Customers without a card with computer access may borrow a guest card. Otherwise they may observe someone else during the hands-on portion. Classes operate on a tight schedule and they cannot be held up for patrons who have not gotten an active card before the class starts. It is the customer’s responsibility to make sure that they have the proper card BEFORE the class. Waiting List For Classes Customers are added to the waiting list in the order that they called. They will be notified if a slot becomes available. Customers on the waiting list should not show up at a class unless the library has notified them that a slot is available. It is the responsibility of the class instructor to notify persons on the waiting list when slots become available. Class Cancellations If a customer has registered for a class and is unable to attend, he or she shall be responsible for notifying reference staff before the class so that the slot can be used for someone on the waiting list. If there are fewer than 5 customers signed up for a class three days prior to the class date, the class will be canceled. The class instructor is responsible for notifying customers of the cancellation. Exceptions will be announced as they occur. |
