The Hickory Public Library welcomes children of all ages. We hope we can provide a happy, safe, and productive atmosphere to introduce children to life-long learning at their public library. The library is a public place that anyone can enter. The library staff has many duties to perform in order to provide service to the public and therefore cannot provide supervision or closely monitor behavior. Parents, or responsible caregivers designated by parents, are responsible for their children's behavior and safety. Children under age 10 should never be left unattended in any part of the library. If staff members find a child or adolescent who is distressed or exhibiting inappropriate behavior, every attempt will be made to locate the parent or caregiver. If staff cannot locate the responsible party, the police will be called and the police will assume responsibility for the child(ren). (approved by Hickory City Council September 5, 2000) |
