Hickory Public Library
Volunteer Policy

Volunteers can play a vital role at Hickory Public Library, and the staff welcomes members of the public to volunteer their applicable skills and abilities. A volunteer application and interview must be completed before anyone can serve as a volunteer at the library. (Applications are available from the Marketing Coordinator.)

Upon acceptance, the volunteer will be assigned to a staff member who will train and assist the volunteer to become a viable member of the library team. This staff member will also supervise work completed by the volunteer.

Volunteers will be issued a volunteer badge to wear and will sign in and sign out each time they volunteer. This will signal the presence of volunteer in the facility and assist us to keep track of the number of hours each volunteer donates. The supervisor will keep these sign in sheets for a period of no less than one year.

Volunteers should adhere to the agreed-upon schedule and notify the library if the schedule becomes inconvenient.

Volunteers must be at least 15 years old.
