Hickory Public Library's Endowment

Hickory Public Library, under various names and at various locations, has provided services to residents of the Catawba Valley for more than a century. Over the years, the library has been the recipient of generous donations from businesses and individuals in the Catawba Valley. The endowment was created to secure and augment such donations and the operations and programming of the library system for present and future patrons.

The Hickory Public Library and the City of Hickory created the endowment in 1999 with the Catawba Valley Community Foundation, an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation. The umbrella endowment was opened with initial donations of $708,100.13 and in 2000 the library received its first payment from interest accrued.

The endowment is composed of five funds. They include:

  • Humanities Programming Fund
    Provides adult humanities programming support
  • Ridgeview Branch Humanities Programming Fund
Provides adult humanities programming support for the Ridgeview Branch
  • Ralph W. Hutton Family Children's Resources Fund
Provides funds for the purchase of resources for the Children's Room at the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library
  • Patrick Beaver General Operations Fund
Provides funds to support general operations of the library
  • Hickory Public Library Collections/Electronic Resources Fund
Provides funds to strengthen and improve adult resources collections

These existing funds are open to receive donor contributions at any time. The Hickory Public Library also offers the opportunity to establish future component funds.

Current and original donors to the endowment include:

Bank of America
The Beaver Family Foundation
Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company
Ralph W. Hutton Family
George Lyerly Estate
Thomasville Furniture Industries
The Underdown Foundation
Hickory Woman's Club
