Services at Hickory Public Library

Our staff is on hand to assist you with...

Audio-Visual Needs
Our video collection now numbers over 6,000, but if we don't have what you need, we can request materials from the State Library of North Carolina for you. In addition, we circulate audio books and compact disks.
Genealogy Information
Our genealogy collection thoroughly covers the area of Catawba and surrounding counties, and we have material from other parts of North Carolina and surrounding states as well.  If you have a genealogy question from the Catawba County area, e-mail it to our Genealogy Department.
Large Print Materials
The Hickory Public Library has a large collection of large print materials.
Local History
Our Vertical Files are filled with clippings, personal papers, etc., which are not available in other formats, and we have books on other North Carolina areas as well.
Meeting Room
Hickory Public Library has a meeting room available for non-profit groups. Please see the Meeting Room Policy for more information.  To book the meeting room, contact Jan Knotts at 304-0500, ext. 228.
Online Services
High quality library databases such as "Sirs Researcher," "Sirs Discoverer," and "NewsBank," are available for use within the library.  We are a proud host site of NCLive, a statewide collection of magnificent on-line services, funded by the state.
Photocopying, Typing, and Word Processing
Photocopiers are available at both locations, with copies available at ten cents per page.  A color copier is available at Patrick Beaver Memorial, at $1.50 per page.  Typewriters and computers with laser printers are available in both locations. The computers contain Microsoft Office Suite for word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.  Customers must have a library card to print from any of these machines.
Programs for Civic Organizations and Other Groups
The Library's staff would be happy to present a program on library services to your group.  Call the library at 304-0500.
Reserves
If the book you need is not available, ask any member of the staff about placing a hold on the material for you.
Tax Forms
The Library has all the most common tax forms available beginning at the first of the year. We also retain master copies of forms which are less frequently used as well as forms from years past. These may be photocopied at 10 cents per page.
Voter Registration Forms
Mail-in voter registration forms are available at the main facility.
World Wide Web Access
Thirty computer terminals with World Wide Web access are available for library patrons in the Adult Services Area of Patrick Beaver Memorial, with eight available at Ridgeview. Several additional terminals are available for children's use at Patrick Beaver and Ridgeview. Please review Hickory Public Library's Internet Use Policy.  Customers must have a valid H.E.L.P. card to access the Internet.
Young Adult Collection
Our collection of YA materials contains award-winning books for those reading lists, as well as "fun" reading such as R.L. Stine and Sweet Valley High.
