Free, digital books are available online from Hickory Public Library System beginning on February 9, thanks to a donation from LaneVenture and Interco Charitable Trust.

We are pleased to announce our new online digital book collection from the North Carolina Digital Library (NCDL). NCDL is a group of North Carolina public libraries that have joined together to bring this resource to their library cardholders. The new service makes it possible for you to check out and download digital books anytime of day from anywhere in the world.

What is a Digital Book?

We offer two kinds of digital books: Digital Audio Books and eBooks. Digital Audio Books, which are spoken-word digital audio files, can be enjoyed on your PC and hundreds of portable audio devices—you can even burn them to CD and listen in your car or on any standard CD player. You can also download them to your MP3 player.

An eBook is a text-based, digital version of a book that can be read on your home computer, Macintosh, Smartphone, Palm OS device, or PocketPC.

How It Works

Just install the free software from our website, then browse our collection of fiction, mysteries, romance, nonfiction, best sellers, and more. When you’re ready, you can download the digital books directly to your home computer, transfer them to your portable device, or burn audio books directly to CD. When the lending period is up, your digital books are automatically returned — so there are never any late fees! A valid library card is all you need to begin reading or hearing digital books today.
