Hickory Public Library Offers New BookNews Service Hickory Public Library has introduced BookNews, a new online service for readers that provides up to the minute news on book releases and upcoming programs. This new reader's advisory service gives readers access to free electronic newsletters about a wide variety of books and library programming via the library website at www.hickorygov.com/library/ or by direct delivery to their e-mail address. Readers can access the service via the BookNews icon or the “Sign Up for E-News” link on the home page and sign up for the newsletters they wish to read. Readers can select electronic newsletters based on genres, including fiction, non-fiction, children’s, mystery, business books, and science fiction books. The newsletters include reviews, descriptions and author commentaries. E-mail subscribers to the programming newsletters won’t miss the next author visit or that computer class they have wanted to take when they subscribe to this new service. All the current issues of the newsletters are also available on the library’s web site, along with awards lists, such as the Pulitzer Prize for History and a newsletter about works for children that have received the Caldecott Medal for illustration. Links within the newsletters and lists take users directly to the Hickory Public Library catalog, so they can easily see if a title is available at the library. For more information about BookNews and other library services, call Patrick Beaver Memorial Library at 304-0500, or Ridgeview Branch Library at 345-6037, or go to the library’s website at http://www.hickorygov.com/library. |
