Storyteller Ron Jones Brings Bilingual Stories and Songs to the Library
Professional storyteller Ron Jones will entertain children of all ages with bilingual (Spanish/English) stories and songs at Hickory Public Library. Jones will sing and tell about dogs, cats, snakes, frogs and more on Tuesday, July 18th. The program at Ridgeview Recreation Center is at 10:00 a.m. and at 7:00 p.m. at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library. Both programs are free and open to the public. Jones’ visit is part of Hickory Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, “Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales”. Among the stories and songs he will perform are selections from his new CD “I’d Rather Be a Dog”. Jones grew up in a family of storytellers on a dairy farm in North Carolina and has been telling stories for the past thirty years. Both children and adults have enjoyed his performances in schools, libraries, museums, and at storytelling festivals. He tells traditional and contemporary folktales, classic fairytales, and his original stories and songs. He spent several years as an actor touring with educational theater companies and after receiving his Masters Degree in Library Science, spent twenty-two years as Children’s Librarian and Youth Services Consultant for the State Library of North Carolina. Patrick Beaver Memorial Library is located at 375 3rd Street NE on the SALT Block. Ridgeview Recreation Center is at 700 1st Street SW next to Ridgeview Branch Library.
