Ridgeview Library Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with Program for Teens Charlotte attorney Charles Jones is the guest speaker for “Teen Talk About Lesser-Known Civil Rights Heroes” during a special event in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. All teens are invited to participate on Thursday, January 11 th at 4:00 p.m. at Ridgeview Branch Library. Jones will talk with teens about his and other lesser-known participants’ experiences during sit-ins, protests, marches and voter registration campaigns during the 1960’s throughout the South. In February 1960 Jones and fellow organizers lead some 200 Johnson C. Smith University students to downtown Charlotte where they conducted sit-ins at all lunch counters. His continued participation in Civil Rights protests ended in his arrest and incarceration. Jones is a graduate of Harbison Junior College, Johnson C. Smith University, Johnson C. Smith University Theological Seminary, and Howard University School of Law. He has served as director of several community organizations, was Assistant District Attorney for Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, and is currently owner of Joseph Charles Jones, Esq., Law Practice.
