February Computer Classes Set at Hickory Public Library

Registration is open for February computer classes at the Hickory Public Library. Two free classes are scheduled – “Beginning Word Processing” on Monday, February 5 th from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and “Beginning Morningstar Using NCLive” on Tuesday, February 20 th from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. The sessions will be held at the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library located at 375 3 rd Street NE on the SALT Block.

Beginning Word Processing teaches the essentials of using Microsoft Word to do basic word processing - creating, opening, saving, closing, previewing and printing a document. After taking this class, participants will know how to create, edit and change the appearance of documents, such as resumes, reports and letters. The class will cover basic formatting tasks, including adjustment of font style and size, and line spacing. Participants will also learn how to set margins, tabs, change fonts, spell check, copy, paste and more. This class is geared toward the absolute beginner who has no prior word processing experience and presumes that the student has no computer experience.

Beginning Morningstar demonstrates the online use of this well-known investment research tool. Participants should know basic investment concepts, principles, and strategies and how to use the Internet. It is not a class on investing or how to invest by an investment professional. The class will demonstrate how to do simple searches on three information gathering tools. The Screener module enables users to identify ETF’s, Funds, and Stocks that meet criteria selected by the investor. Reports by analysts are available for perusal on funds and stock. The Portfolio X-Ray module demonstrates how different funds and stocks would work together. The Beginning Internet Class or Internet experience is a prerequisite to register for this class.
