Children’s Music Weekend Scheduled at Hickory Public Library

   

Children’s Music Weekend is planned at Hickory Public Library on March 3rd & 4 th. Third through fifth graders can enjoy a special program, “Music Is Elementary,” with NY City musical theater director John Coffey on Saturday, March 3 rd at 3:00 p.m. Young children and families are invited to a “Rug Concert” with the Vega String Quartet on Sunday, March 4 th at 3:00 p.m. Both programs are free and will be held at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library.

Former Hickory resident John Coffey now lives in NY City where he is a composer and pianist, directing and accompanying musical theater productions. He is in Hickory for the revival of his production “The Streets of Hickory” at Hickory Community Theatre. While in town, he is sharing his talents throughout the community. During his program at the library, Coffey will talk about the styles and aspects of music while entertaining the audience with his piano music.

Young children are invited to the “Rug Concert” where the Vega String Quartet will entertain with their special music just for young listeners. The concert introduces children to classical music and instruments. The performances always include audience participation and sometimes feature musical adaptations of familiar children’s stories. Individuals, families, and groups are invited to attend the free concert.

The Vega String Quartet is the guest quartet of the Western Piedmont Symphony . Wei-Wei Le - violin, Jessica Wu – violin, Yinzi Kong – viola, and Guang Wang – cello are currently the quartet in residence at Emory University in Atlanta. They are performing with the symphony and at various locations during their stay in Hickory.
