National Library Week Events Planned At Hickory Public Library
Hickory Public Library will observe National Library Week, April 15 th - 21 st by hosting a week of events for children and adults that are free and open to the public. Highlights of the week include: the entertaining P. O’Connor Puppets, popular children’s author Gloria Houston, HD TV seminar, genealogy workshop, and children’s storytimes.
Hickory Public Library joins libraries across the country in celebrating the role libraries play in the community. The two Hickory libraries are community hubs serving adults, children and youth by providing information, entertainment, educational programs, and materials for reading, listening and watching. During the past year the library has made many additions to its collections, particularly the much in demand DVD’s and audio books. Library Marketing and Program Coordinator Jan Knotts commented, “Over the past year, the library hosted 571 programs, including computer classes, author visits, storytimes, and concerts that were attended by 21,764 children and adults.” She added, “Area residents made 406,585 visits to Hickory libraries last year and 425,198 items were checked out. Our libraries are very busy places.”
