Genealogy Workshop Scheduled at Hickory Public Library “Genealogy By Design” is a free genealogy workshop scheduled at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library during National Library Week. Join North Carolina Genealogist Tim Rackley on Saturday, April 21 st from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for this free four-session workshop. Pre-registration is required for one or all sessions. Patrick Beaver Memorial Library is located at 375 3 rd Street NE on the SALT Block in Hickory. The workshop schedule is as follows: Session I - “Inquiring Minds Want to Know”- beginning research, having a plan, organizing and analyzing information, documentation of sources; Session II, “Roads Less Traveled”- sources many people ignore, such as tax listings, court records, church records, cattle brands, etc: Session III, “Needle In A Haystack” – census matrix technique and other problem solving methods, especially for pre-1850 census information; Session IV, “Up a Creek” – platting land deeds. Rackley co-authored “Rackley: A Southern Colonial Family” that was released in 1984 with a revised edition printed in 1996. He formed Rackley Publishing in 1994 with the goal of taking county records to the individual by abstracting and publishing records. The North Carolina Genealogical Society gave the “Award for Excellence in Publishing” to Rackley in 1998. He is a charter member of Tar River Connections Genealogical Society and Director at Large, North Carolina Genealogical Society.
