National Library Week Bookmark Contest

The Friends of Hickory Public Library announced the winners of its National Library Week Bookmark Contest and presented certificates and prizes to the three First Place winners and twelve Honorable Mention recipients. Winning in grades K-2 was Autumn Lenoir, a second grader at Jenkins Elementary School. Winning in grades 3–5 was Nathanael McClellan, a third grader at Tabernacle Christian School. Danielle Herman was the winner in grades 6–8. She is in the seventh grade at Tabernacle Christian School. Honorable Mention awards were given to the following: Anna Hardy, 2 nd grade Oakwood Elementary; Claire Henson, 1 st grade Clyde Campbell Elementary; Tariq Shuford, K at Longview Elementary; Noah Sprouse, 2 nd grade Oakwood Elementary; Clowee Younce, 2 nd grade Gracious Girls Academy; Courtney Hartman, 5 th grade Oakwood Elementary; Beatty Sharpe, 5 th grade Cornerstone Christian Academy; Darbey Younce, 5 th grade Gracious Girls Academy; Brittany Catoe, 6 th grade Catawba Intermediate; Michael Elmore, 7 th grade Mill Creek Middle; Zackary Poovey, 7 th grade Grandview Middle; and Katelyn Zander, 8 th grade Mill Creek Middle. Oakwood Elementary School received a prize for having the most entries in the contest.

There were 1,204 entries from schools and organizations throughout Catawba County. The three winning bookmarks have been printed to be used as the Hickory Public Library official bookmarks for the year. They are available at both Patrick Beaver Memorial Library and Ridgeview Branch Library. A display of the winning bookmarks and many of the entries can be seen at the libraries throughout the month of April.
