Henna Body Art Featured In Teen Program At Hickory Public Library The tradition of Henna Body Art is the subject of a special program for teens at Hickory Public Library. Learn about this ancient art of adorning the hands and feet and try it on yourself. All materials are supplied and the program is free and open to all young people 12 and older. Come to Patrick Beaver Memorial Library on Wednesday, June 13 th at 3:00 p.m. for a unique experience. Anita Gupta, a native of India, will conduct the program. She has studied henna art in India and most recently participated in the International Springfest celebration in Hickory. Henna is a plant, used in both the Middle East and India for thousands of years to create beautiful, temporary skin art. Traditionally henna was applied to the hair, hands and feet. On the body, henna is used to paint beautiful and elaborate patterns with the dye made from crushed leaves of the henna plant. The special program is part of YNK (You Never Know) @ Your Library, the library’s summer reading program for 12 – 18 year olds. Participants do not have to be registered for Summer Reading to attend the henna program, but they may do so after the program. Patrick Beaver Memorial Library is located at 375 3 rd Street NE on the SALT Block. For information call 304-0500 ext. 249.
