Library Kicks Off Summer Reading Program With “The Balloon Lady” Come join the fun as Hickory Public Library kicks off its Summer Reading Program with a special event for children of all ages. On Tuesday, June 12 th come to either Patrick Beaver Memorial Library or Ridgeview Recreation Center to see “The Balloon Lady” twist balloons into fabulous creations – right before your eyes. The Ridgeview performance is at 10:30 a.m. and Patrick Beaver’s is at 2:30 p.m. Both performances are free and open to the public. Donna Pruett, “The Balloon Lady”, has entertained thousands of children across the state. This year she created a special show for libraries, based on the Summer Reading theme – “Get a Clue @Your Library”. Her entertaining programs include her award winning balloon creations, music, storytelling, and engaging magic tricks that appeal to children of all ages. In February 2007, Ms. Pruett represented the state of North Carolina at the International Balloon Twisting Competition. Come see some of her award winning creations and sign up for a summer full of reading fun. All area children are invited to attend the Kick-off and to sign up for the Summer Reading Program. Registration is ongoing for Get a Clue @ Your Library, for 0 - 12 year olds, and YNK @ Your Library for 12 – 18 year olds. Special events, activities, and storytimes continue through August 12 th. Patrick Beaver Memorial Library is located at 375 3 rd Street NE on the SALT Block and Ridgeview Recreation Center is at 115 7 th Avenue SW, next to Ridgeview Branch Library.
