Key in the current Password (available only to HPL library patrons).

WHY: Directs patrons quickly to quality information.

HOW: FOUR ACCESS POINTS and FOUR TYPES of SEARCHES

I Four Access Points

A) EZ Keyword(s) access at the NCLive homepage. Searches multiple resources

with one search.

  • Subject/TypeCategories access under the “Browse Resources” Tab.

  • Alphabetic List of resources access under the “Browse Resources” Tab.

  • Vendor group access under the “Browse Resources” Tab for meta-searches.
II Four Searches
  • EZ-Enterkeyword(s) or phrase(s)n the EZ search box. Select the radio button for the combination of words desired and click the Search button.

Below is a sample of the many returns in only two of the databases searched by EZ.

A selection of citations from the MasterFile Premier database follows.

  • Basic (or Simple) Search on a Specific Database: EBSCO’s Academic Elite.

Type word(s) or phrase(s) in the search box and click the Search button.

Note that results may be manipulated by using features unique to each database.

  • Advanced (or Guided) Search on a Specific Database: Academic Elite.

For more precise searching resulting in more relevant returns use the Boolean operators of And, Or ,or Not. Note: Search terms can be specified to appear in selected fields. After determining search terms, Boolean operators, and fields, click on the Search button.

A sample of some returns from this advanced search is below. Note these articles are FT.

  • Meta-searches by Vendor-Select a Vendor under the Browse Resources Tab.

Determine which resources from that Vendor will most likely return relevant hits. Select those resources and then proceed with your normal search.

This example illustrates a meta-search selection of the EBSCOhost Vendor.

Select the databases most relevant to your topic.

Note that these two databases will be searched simultaneously in the search below.
