An excellent health information resource is the NOAH: New York Online Access to Health website, which is accessible through NCLive. NOAH is a searchable collection of health information that is also available in Spanish. Clicking on the NCLive icon at the Hickory Public Library homepage and the NCLive icon on the following page will bring you to the NCLive homepage below.

Click on the Browse Resources Tab to see the access options that follow.

At this point you may click either on the Alphabetic List Tab or select the Medical and Health category under the Subject/Type Tab. Clicking on the Medical and Health link returns a list of medical/health related databases, a portion of which is shown here.

Selecting NOAH will link you to the NOAH’s colorful homepage.

Notice that you may do a category search by selecting the Health Topics option or a keyword search by choosing the Word Search link. Let’s try searching by categories or topics first. Click on the Health Topics link and see the partial page below.

You may also do a (keyword) Word Search or consult the Subject Index from this page. Clicking on Bone & Muscle Diseases returns the next page, of which a portion is shown.

Next choose a topic of interest. Foot and Ankle Anatomy was selected for this illustration. See a portion of the Foot and Ankle Anatomy page below.

Choosing the anatomy subdivision, Ankle-Southern California Orthopedic Institute, retrieves the information that follows.

A Word Search will be demonstrated next. The spinal cord disorder “transverse myelitis” was keyed in the search box and both words are required. Note that the options “Any” and “Boolean” Searching methods are also available by using the pull down arrow in the Matching Method field.

There was one return for this rare disorder, with the entry opened in the next frame.

Selecting the target Transverse Myelitis disorder will retrieve subdivisions of this topic as is seen here.

Select a topic of interest (Transverse Myelitis Fact Sheet for this illustration).

A final way of search is the Subject Search, which allows you to search by specific subjects. See the beginning of the alphabetized subject index below. Click on the first letter of the name of a subject and select the subject from the list provided

.

Clicking on Abdominal Pain, for example, returns the next page from which you may select a subdivision or topic of interest.
