Communications Center

Hickory Police Department’s Communication Center is one of the most modern within the area.  It has four consoles with state of the art equipment that allows 12 telecommunicators and a civilian supervisor to answer over 200,000 calls for service annually.  Once a call is received, the telecommunicator enters the call for service in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.  The telecommunicator sends a police officer to investigate the calls via 800- megahertz radio system.  Last year, HPD sent officers on over 45,000 calls for service.  Each telecommunicator is certified by North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to access files from state and federal government agencies.
