Hickory Marine Unit

Hickory is full of recreational opportunities with one of the best being Lake Hickory. In order to provide a safe place to enjoy boating and other water activities, Hickory Police Department operates a Marine Unit that performs regular patrols on weekends and holidays during the recreational boating season.

HPD's Marine Unit is comprised of 10 USCG trained officers who perform regular duties day in and day out, working on the lake when needed. Marine Unit members operate a 22-foot OMC Stratos boat with a 260 HP in-board motor. The unit is on call 24 hours a day year round to handle emergency situations that may arise on Lake Hickory and surrounding waterways. All Marine Unit officers have completed the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Seamanship Qualification.
