Captain Clyde Deal
Captain Deal joined the Hickory Police Department in February of 1985 as a police officer. As a Sergeant, he assisted in the implementation of the pilot project that introduced community based policing to the city. In October of 1989, he became the first Sergeant of the original PACT (Police And Community Together) which formed the basis for city wide community based policing, an initiative that began in 1994. Upon his promotion to Lieutenant in August of 1996, he served as Commander of Baker PACT and then as Commander of David PACT. In August of 2000, Deal was promoted to Captain and currently serves as the Commander of the Patrol Division.
His educational background includes an AS Degree in Business Administration from Catawba Valley Community College and a BS Degree in Criminal Justice from Gardner Webb University. He has continued with graduate studies at the University of Virginia. Deal is a graduate of the 195th Session of the FBI National Academy.
Captain Deal is a member of the International Association Chiefs of Police and the North Carolina Police Executive Association. Captain Deal, his wife, Denise and their three children live in Hickory.
