Support Services Division

Captain Jay Jackson
Captain Jay Jackson is the Commander of the Support Services Division. Support Services is one of the three divisions within the police department. This division is responsible for ensuring the officers that are performing police duties have the appropriate resources to accomplish the department’s goal and objectives. Under his direct command are Motor Fleet, Community Services, Technology, Communications, Records, and Career Development..
Recruitment and career development of coworkers that work at HPD is an important function of this division. Sergeant Tom Freeman supervises career development. Sergeant Freeman talks to each individual coworker to seek their career goals and “maps” a plan that will benefit both the coworker and the department. He also attends many college and high school career days to seek potential employees for HPD. Sgt. Freeman can be reached at (828) 261-2610 or by e-mail to answer any questions about career opportunities at HPD.
Another function the division commander is responsible for is overseeing the internship program. Many local colleges and high schools ask to send students to participate in this program. The internship program gives a student who is interested in public service a “real life” view of what is expected in this profession. “Many interns after completing their time with HPD, become part of the Hickory Police team,” says Jackson. “The interns are impressed with the way HPD provides the highest quality of police service and start their career with us”.
