Building Services

The
Building Services division is located and operates from
the Public Services complex located at 1441 9th Ave NE.
The division consists six staff personnel: one Building
Maintenance Supervisor, one Senior Electrician, two Electricians
and two Construction & Maintenance Worker positions.
The group mainly performs a variety of internal citywide
services for all city facilities. These services range
from general and preventative maintenance, HVAC troubleshooting
and repair work, remedial plumbing and small construction,
extensive electrical maintenance and troubleshooting as
well as awarded council directive projects and a 24 hour
on call emergency services to provide services in maintaining
facility operations. The Building Services group works
under the direction of the Public Services Manager and
the Public Services Director.
The Building
Services division services approximately 165+ active city facilities
and structures that have active electrical service/equipment.
Of the six staff
members in Building Services division, three staff personnel have
to date active NC electrician licenses issued by the NC State Board
of Examiners of Electrical Contractors. One non-license member
is currently enrolled in the NC State Apprenticeship program in
pursuing required contact hours/field experience to be accepted
to test for an electrical license. This program is coordinated
by a State Apprenticeship coordinator and sponsored by the city’s
Human Resources department.
The Building
Services division services the following internal city departments:
City Hall, District Court, HPD, Airport, Patrick Beaver Memorial
Library, Ridgeview Library, 7-Fire Stations, Recreation Departmentà ball
fields, gyms, centers, parks, swimming pools, Utilitiesàsupports
services to Water Plant, Henry Fork Waste Treatment plant, NE Waste
Treatment Plant, Compost plant, various utility pump stations,
Union Square/DDA, Southside Cemetery, Oakwood Cemetery, Fairview
Cemetery
The Building
Services division services the following rental properties: Hickory
Station Restaurant, Women’s Service League House, Family
Crisis Center, Shuford House, Old Chamber of Commerce, Nationwide
(Jeff Kincaid) bldg, Family Vision bldg, Hickory Community Theatre
· The
division operates on an internal electronic “Request for
Service” program in which all internal city staff/departments
are able to submit their particular areas requests via PC, which
are submitted directly to the Electrician Shop for scheduling.
Staff then completes a detailed work order on each request once
all work has been completed. All of the Building Services work
orders are routed to the Central Services department, which are
then entered into a city master database for record.
