Junior Basketball

The Hickory Parks and Recreation Department would like to announce that registration is underway for Junior Basketball.

The Junior League program is open to anyone 13-15 years old, who will not be 16 before October 15, 2008. Games will be played at Ridgeview Recreation Center located at 115 7th Ave. SW on Mondays and Thursdays beginning at 6:00 p.m. The season is scheduled to begin in January.

Skills assessments for Junior League will be held on Tuesday, November 18th or Thursday, November 20th at 6:00 p.m. at Ridgeview Recreation Center.

All players living outside the city limits of Hickory must pay a $40.00 non-resident fee. All players must pay their non-resident fee if required, bring a copy of their birth certificate, if not already on file and have a parent or guardian present at time of registration. Those children who have previously participated in Parks and Recreation Department programs may register by telephone.

All children participating are encouraged to purchase accident insurance coverage. The $6.00 insurance covers the participant for a one-year period from March 1, 2008 until February 28, 2009 in all activities sponsored and supervised by the Parks and Recreation Department. The $250,000.00 coverage is primary coverage that pays regardless of other insurance, directly to the participant, doctor, or hospital. The insurance must be paid at the time of registration.

New players and those aging into a new division must attend one skills assessment session in order to be placed on a team.
