Mites Basketball

The Hickory Parks and Recreation Department is now registering players for Instructional Mites Basketball. The age groups will be 5 and 6 year old boys and 5 year old girls (4 year olds must be 5 before October 15, 2008 and cannot be 7 before October 15, 2008). The instructional program will be held at Neill W. Clark, Jr. Recreation Park Gym located at 3404 6th St. Dr. NW.

The program will begin on Monday, December 1, 2008 with practices on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Instructors will be Parks and Recreation Department personnel and volunteer coaches. Following the end of the one and one half week instructional period, the players will be placed on a team and games will be played. A separate girls league will be provided in each age division if there are enough girls participating. The program will run for approximately 6 – 8 weeks. All new five (5) and six (6) year olds are asked to attend the one and a half week instructional session. Returning players will be notified by their coach of the first practice time.

All players living outside the city limits of Hickory must pay a $40.00 non-resident fee. All players must pay their non-resident fee if required, bring a copy of their birth certificate, if not already on file and have a parent or guardian present at the time of registration. Those children who have previously participated in Parks and Recreation Department programs may register by telephone.

All children participating in basketball are encouraged to purchase accident insurance coverage. The $6.00 insurance fee covers the participant for a one-year period from March 1, 2008 until February 28, 2009 in all activities sponsored and supervised by the Parks and Recreation Department. The $250,000 coverage is primary coverage that pays regardless of other insurance, directly to the participant, doctor, or hospital. The insurance fee must be paid at time of registration.
